SUMMARY:Tumacácori Mission Tour
DESCRIPTION:This is a private tour of Tumacácori National Historical Park by a former NPS ranger who worked there in historic preservation and heritage interpretation. \nThe park protects one of the most unique places in Arizona and helps people understand the state’s vibrant natural and cultural landscapes. \nLook into this experience in this video. \nDivided into 4 themes\, the itinerary includes an interpretation of: \nA. The historic visitor center and convento garden.\n(i.) A look at the early 20th century National Park Service history of the park.\n(ii.) New Deal (CCC) architecture. \nB. The mission complex ruins.\n(i.) Native American and Spanish colonial history of Tumacácori.\n(ii.) Overview of historic preservation techniques for earthen architecture and natural lime plasters at the mission.\n(iii.) Visit to acequia as a reference point to tell the agricultural and ranching legacy of the missions. \nC. The Santa Cruz River valley.\n(i.) Kino Heritage Fruit Tree Orchard.\n(ii.) Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail.\n(iii.) A short hike (¼ mile) through shaded mesquite bosque and endangered cottonwood-willow gallery forest.\n(v.) Visit to the Santa Cruz River. \nD. DESCRIPTION:Join Tucson Bird Alliance’s restoration team in enhancing and maintaining habitat around the Paton Center grounds. \n\n\nPosition Description:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTBA’s restoration department has been hard at work acquiring new grounds and developing valuable native habitat types at the Paton Center over the past few years and we need your help to continue this work. Events will focus largely on invasive species removal and weeding but could include any of the following activities:\n\nWeeding and planting the Paton meadow to support pollinators\nTrail maintenance and building for improved visitor experience\nInvasive grass and vine pulling and management\nBrush clearing and hauling\nIrrigation system maintenance to support native plants\nPaton Center yard and grounds maintenance\nNative seed collection\n\nWe welcome you to register for these events if you are interested in any of these tasks and a TBA staff member will reach out in advance of each event to provide a more detailed plan for the day.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRequirements:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease come prepared to work in direct sun and in hot temperatures during warm months. We recommend wearing long sleeves\, long pants\, and a hat as well as sturdy close toed shoes. Please also bring a refillable water bottle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOctober-May: 10-12 pm\nJune-September: 9-11 am\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNumber of Openings:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are looking for 10-15 volunteers for each date. Also known as Day of the Dead\, this cultural tradition is rooted in the belief that the spirits of our loved ones return to visit us during this time. \nThroughout the village\, ofrendas (altars) are lovingly created and adorned with photos\, favorite foods\, drinks\, and cherished items of those being remembered. Casa Maya de Mexico\, event organizer\, provides everything you need to decorate your ofrenda\, booth\, and procession signage\, making it easy for participants to create beautiful displays. Whether you’re new to the tradition or return each year\, all are welcome to take part in this meaningful and heartfelt celebration of life. \nThis year\, the heart of the event is located at Tubac Presidio State Historical Park and Museum\, at 1 Burruel St.\, which will host the vendor area\, procession start and end points\, and main performances. DESCRIPTION:Join Tucson Bird Alliance’s restoration team in enhancing and maintaining habitat around the Paton Center grounds. \n\n\nPosition Description:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTBA’s restoration department has been hard at work acquiring new grounds and developing valuable native habitat types at the Paton Center over the past few years and we need your help to continue this work. Events will focus largely on invasive species removal and weeding but could include any of the following activities:\n\nWeeding and planting the Paton meadow to support pollinators\nTrail maintenance and building for improved visitor experience\nInvasive grass and vine pulling and management\nBrush clearing and hauling\nIrrigation system maintenance to support native plants\nPaton Center yard and grounds maintenance\nNative seed collection\n\nWe welcome you to register for these events if you are interested in any of these tasks and a TBA staff member will reach out in advance of each event to provide a more detailed plan for the day.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRequirements:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease come prepared to work in direct sun and in hot temperatures during warm months. We recommend wearing long sleeves\, long pants\, and a hat as well as sturdy close toed shoes. Please also bring a refillable water bottle. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOctober-May: 10-12 pm\nJune-September: 9-11 am\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNumber of Openings:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe are looking for 10-15 volunteers for each date. DESCRIPTION:Walk around Mission Garden to look for seasonal and resident birds. Learn to identify some common calls and songs of the birds here. The garden is a good place for beginning and intermediate birders to learn about many of the birds common to the greater Tucson area. Check in with Kevin (the roadrunner) and our resident chickens. We always check the hummingbird feeder to see what hummingbirds are visiting it! \nWalks usually last about one and half hours. Walking is easy in the garden and the paths\, while not paved\, are made of compacted material that is ADA compatible and suitable for wheelchairs and walkers. The length of this walk is 0.50 to 0.75 mile.
