SUMMARY:Highway Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join the Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection for a highway cleanup within a wildlife corridor! \nHelp us collect trash along our adopted stretch of highway along the I-10 frontage road near Avra Valley Road and the Santa Cruz River wildlife ramp. Gloves\, safety vests\, snacks and drinks\, trash bags\, and pick-up sticks (grabbers) are provided. More specific information and directions will be sent in an email to all RSVPs. \nPlease bring a reusable water bottle and coffee mug. We recommend sun protection and long sleeves/pants. \nThis project is funded in part by the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area. Thank you! \nPhysical requirements: Frequent bending and kneeling\, walking in the sun for prolonged periods\, walking on potentially uneven surfaces. Due to safety and ADOT regulation\, volunteers must be 12 years or older.

At this Day of Connection you can expect to; \n\nEnjoy music\, snacks and beautiful green space with a broad community of stewardship and nature lovers.\nSteward the Santa Cruz by picking up trash with TCB  and Sonoran Institute or learn to identify and remove invasive giant reed (Arundo donax) with specialists from Tucson Bird Alliance.\nExperience the on-going neighborhood conservation and restoration efforts in the area being lead by Friends of Favor Celestial and Watershed Management group.\nConnect with Educators with Pima County Conservation Lands and Resources and Regional Flood Control District to learn more about what our county is doing to conserve and celebrate our public lands.

DESCRIPTION:This trash/buffelgrass cleanup is on Sunday\, April 12 from 7 – 9 am.  Ramada #7 is reserved for a (no alcohol) potluck brunch after the cleanup.  Email me for at FriendsOfDLPark@gmail.com for more info and please copy/paste this link to sign up  https://forms.gle/kkU7mSAhQNn8c8EB7  if you would like to join.  You do not need to help with the cleanup in order to attend the potluck.  Meet at the SOUTHERN end of the lake. When you drive into the park\, take the first right and follow this all the way around behind PACC until you get to the meeting spot parking. \nAt the April 12 potluck\, Friends of Danny Lopez Park will be practicing using the iNaturalist app to help document the plants\, birds\, dragonflies and aquatic invertebrates around Silverbell Lake. They will use this skill on Saturday\, April 25 to do a Bioblitz for the 2026 City Nature Challenge.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection at the Oracle Road wildlife crossings! \nThis is a great opportunity to get a hands-on\, restoration experience\, take a tour of these amazing structures\, and learn more about wildlife connectivity projects in Southern Arizona. \nOur goals for the day: \n\nRemove invasive plant species (buffelgrass)\nWater establishing plants\nBuild and repair erosion control rock structures as needed\n\nPlease arrive for an 8am start time. Gloves and all other tools will be provided. We will have snacks bagels and snacks to share with you! Please bring a re-usable water bottle. We hope you can join us! \nRSVP here \nPhysical Requirements: Frequent bending and kneeling\, walking in the sun for prolonged periods\, walking on potentially uneven surfaces\, carrying water buckets weighing between 15-25 lbs\, moving rocks weighing between 5-25lbs. \nThis project in funded in part by the Santa Cruz Valley National Heritage Area and in partnership with Strategic Habitat Enhancements – thank you!
