DESCRIPTION:This is a private walking tour of Tubac. Tubac originally emerged as a village of the Sobaipuri and is the site of the oldest European settlement in what is now the state of Arizona\, founded in 1752. \nLook into this experience in this video. \nDivided into four themes\, the itinerary includes a background & interpretation of Tubac’s: \nA. Geography\n(i.) Santa Cruz Valley and River\n(ii.) Upper Sonoran Desert natural landscape overview\n(iii.) Local mountain range identification \nB. Native American and Spanish colonial history\n(i.) Sobaipuri Rancheria of Tubac and the origin of the name\n(ii.) Pima Rebellion & the Spanish royal presidio of San Ignacio de Tubac.\n(iii.) Juan Bautista de Anza II and the expedition to California\n(a.) Visit to shaded mesquite bosque and endangered cottonwood-willow gallery forest along the Santa Cruz River.\n(iv.) The Apache presence in Santa Cruz Valley \nC. Mexican and American Eras\n(i.) Gadsden Purchase: U.S. Military and Abandonment\n(ii.) Mining Activity and Charles Poston (Poston House)\n(iii.) Civil War & 1870s reoccupation of Tubac\n(iv.) Sonoran Row House Architecture & later Art Colony \nD.
