SUMMARY:The Arizona Trail: An 850-mile Mountain Bike Exploration of Climate Change
DESCRIPTION:Along the 850-mile Arizona Trail from Utah to Mexico\, climate change is reshaping ecosystems and communities across the Southwest. In fall 2025\, Arizona Republic climate reporter and ecologist Joan Meiners spent seven weeks mountain biking the entire trail to document these changes and explore solutions with scientists\, tribes\, and local experts. Through vivid photos\, video\, and storytelling\, this presentation traces Arizona’s most urgent environmental challenges and opportunities—mile by mile—from fire-scarred forests and deepening drought to renewable energy efforts and humanitarian issues at the border. This free program is made possible by AZ Humanities and space is limited. Please note\, park admission is not included.

SUMMARY:Blast from the Past: Firing of the 1541 Coronado Expedition Cannon Replica
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a remarkable presentation featuring Dr. Deni Seymour\, an internationally recognized archaeologist and leading expert on Native and Spanish Colonial history of the Southwest. She will be joined by fellow members of the Historical Arms Society of Tucson. \n \nWith more than 45 years of groundbreaking research\, Dr. Seymour has uncovered the stories\, landscapes\, and people that shaped our desert region. Her work—combined with her dynamic storytelling—makes the past come alive. Together with special guests\, she will explore the history and technology of early artillery in the Southwest. \n \nSilent for nearly 500 years\, two bronze cannons were discovered buried at the 1541 battle site of the Coronado Expedition townsite of Suya\, near Nogales in southern Arizona. A highlight of the program will be an exhilarating live cannon firing and in-depth discussion of the cannon\, its replica\, and the critical role these weapons played during the expedition. \n \nThe original cannon will also be available for viewing.

SUMMARY:Backyard Techniques to Harvest The Rain
DESCRIPTION:Join ecologist Caleb Weaver of Ecotone Biodiversity LLC for an engaging presentation overviewing rainwater harvesting in Southern Arizona. Attendees will learn methods to collect\, convey\, and store this free resource to grow food for wildlife and people alike\, protecting critical groundwater and natural water reserves to stay in the ground. We’ll then tour the rain garden that Ecotone Biodiversity designed and installed on the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park grounds so attendees can see multiple examples of rainwater being harvested.
